EarBuds Podcast Collective: * أَهْلًا وَسَهْلً - Ahlan wa Sahlan- Welcome!*

5 podcast episodes according to a theme, curated by a different person each weekMarch 9 - 13, 2020

Hey, EarBuddies! We're trying something a little different this week: podcast recommendations in more than one language. Thank you to our curator, Miriam, for helping us test these waters.  Big shouts to our newest patron via Patreon, Maja Scepanovic! You, too, can become a patron here!  -- Arielle Nissenblatt, founder of EarBuds

  PODCAST CURATOR'S NAME: Miriam Tinberg

WHY THIS THEME?: I have held a passion and curiosity for the Middle East for more than a decade at this point. Since we so rarely hear nuances or complexities about the region, my hope is that the podcast medium creates an opportunity for people who wouldn't otherwise be exposed to these stories to sit, listen, think, and allow for those gray areas

MONDAY: See Something Say Something - Taking the Numb Out of Numbers - 40 minutes   TUESDAY: Kerning Cultures - Not Just My Hijab (Part I) - 22 minutes   WEDNESDAY: Man Up - Why Can't My Wife and I Pray Together - 31 minutes   THURSDAY: Al Empire - Hamed Sinno: Mashrou’ Leila Singer/Songwriter - 44 minutes   FRIDAY: Jasadi - أول مرة (My Body: First Time) - 21 minutes  NB from Miriam: This episode is in Arabic. I chose to include it -- and hope there are some Arabic-speakers on this list -- because I believe representation and inclusion matter. The episode itself features a few Arab women talking about their first times hearing about and experiencing the concept of sex, something considered haram (shameful) in many Arab communities. Since sex is so rarely discussed in the Arabic-speaking countries of the Middle East and North Africa, it was important for me to include it in this week's curation.        GET IN TOUCH: Email | Twitter | Instagram  SELF PROMO: If you, or anyone you know are enrolled in a degree-granting institution (undergrad, grad etc.), and are interested in studying Arabic and living in the Middle East / North Africa (MENA) region, I can talk your ear off about U.S. State Department grants and scholarships to apply for to that will get you there for free! I love reading application essays, so hit me up!  CROWDSOURCING QUESTION: Reflect on your podcast queue: is it mainly voices and stories that are familiar to you? Stories that you might hear in your circles already? Or, is it a mix of voices that aren't otherwise represented in your non-podcast life? No judgement here -- just interesting to think about and discuss.   HASHTAG FOR DISCUSSION: #WelcomeAhlan

, our weekly podcast, is available wherever you get your podcasts. Each episode is an audio version of this newsletter.
