Why did you choose this theme?
Because sound works through vibration, through the displacement of air and the resonance of surfaces, I believe it’s a medium uniquely suited to help us learn from environments (both “natural” and “manmade”), from the objects that surround us, and from the inner workings of our own bodies. Sound illuminates what is alive and responsive in all things. These works were selected for the way they use sound to show us the interconnectedness and shared life of people, places, and things.

ImmaterialConcrete
Concrete is an episode about duality and conflict, and about what we can ask materials to do for us as we grapple with some of life’s most difficult experiences. This episode takes us outside museum spaces to explore how concrete has been shaped into memorial sites and city streets, creating interwoven spaces of ritual remembrance and everyday life.
ConstellationsPhil Smith - The Space Between StoriesFrom Phil Smith: This piece expresses the ongoing search for home and meaning in a time of ecological collapse and the disintegration of old ideas about our place in the world. It’s an expression of conversations I’m having with friends, and of things I’m reading. It’s an attempt to make something honest in sound!
Short CutsUnfinishedFrom James T. Green: This piece meditates on the history of Black bodies as vessels of experimentation and how the melding of tech and self has a longer history than one might imagine.
