TEST II EarBuds: Space
5 podcast episodes according to a theme!
EarBuds Podcast Collective: *Flirting with Experimental*
5 podcast episodes according to a theme, curated by a different person each week!May 15 - 19, 2017
PODCAST LEAD'S NAME: Jake Dluhy WHY THIS THEME?: I believe that the desire to discover and explore is embedded in human DNA. The recent announcement of the TRAPPIST-1 system reminded me how much I love space, and the amazing emotions it can evoke. MONDAY EPISODE (5/15): The Interplanetary Podcast - Exoplanets Special - Harriet Brettle - Planetary Society London - 54 minutes I wanted to start everyone off with the discovery that reignited my passion - the discovery of TRAPPIST-1 (plus other exoplanet talk). The Interplanetary Podcast does a great job introducing listeners to new space concepts. TUESDAY EPISODE (5/16): Startalk Radio - Extended Classic: Space Chronicles (Part 1) - 55 minutes I think it’s important to know our history and where we came from. This episode does a good job of digging into why we started going to space in the first place. WEDNESDAY EPISODE (5/17): Are We There Yet? - How to Land a Rocket Booster - 21 minutes It’s hump day! This is the most technical of the podcast of the week, but also the shortest. It goes in-depth into how exactly SpaceX lands a rocket booster autonomously back on a landing pad (WHICH IS AMAZING!!!). If you’re looking for exactly why this is incredibly significant, listen to the April 5th episode How a Recycled Rocket Will Take Us to Mars. THURSDAY EPISODE (5/18): Radiolab - War of the Worlds - 63 minutes No talk about space would be complete without discussing Sci-Fi. The rest of the week is devoted to the classic radio broadcast War of the Worlds, and we’re starting off with a Radiolab show discussing the history of the broadcast. FRIDAY EPISODE (5/19): Mercury Theatre on the Air - Original War of the Worlds Broadcast - 57 minutes Although I normally listen to podcasts while doing other things, I recommend sitting down, putting this on, and letting yourself imagine that you are back in 1938 listening to this broadcast over the radio. GET IN TOUCH: Email: [email protected], Insta: @jkerzz SHAMELESS PROMO: Not that he needs it, but Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History is probably my favorite podcast. Episodes are incredibly in-depth (read: long) but he is such a great story teller that you don’t even notice. CROWDSOURCING QUESTION: Does the idea of exploring/colonizing the vastness of space excite you? Scare you? Inspire you? Repulse you? How does it make you feel? HASHTAG FOR DISCUSSION: #EarBudsExplore
Here's how EarBuds works: Each week, a theme is chosen by one of our Leads. That Lead finds 5 podcast episodes (from anywhere!) to go along with that theme. Listen to these podcasts by clicking on the links above, through the ****NEED TO UPDATE LINK****
app, or you can find (most of) them on your favorite podcast app (iTunes, Stitcher, Overcast...)
