Why did you choose this theme?

I love spooks and I love laughing - they go together! All year around but especially in October, I love watching horror movies/TV. And I really enjoy listening to comedy nerds unpack their favorite works.

2 Spooky 2 HandleThe Final Boys

Well I can't pretend I'm not biased here, I pitched making a spooky podcast for the month of October and here it is! Comedians Mano Agapion and Betsy Sodaro are bringing you their classic, stupid love of all things horror with this 4 episodes series. In episode 4, Mano and Betsy debate how one becomes a final boy or girl, predict how they’d both die in a horror movie, and reveal once and for all the coolest, scariest and hottest horror villain in our March Madness style SCARY BOWL!

How Did This Get Made?Dracula 2000This is for all my 30 somethings who thought it was the most exciting thing to see pop star Vitamin C play a vampire. Jason, June and Paul discuss Gerard Butler's performance as Dracula, old timey booby traps, and the incredible performance of Jennifer Esposito.

Atlas Obscura

Jonathan Carey and Michelle Cassidy of the Atlas Places Team bring you spooky legends: the Mothman from Point Pleasant and a striking forest in the Transylvanian Region of Romania. It’s funny in that way that I get a chuckle out of the fun and spooky sound design. I recommend pairing this episode with a roaring fire (the “fireplace from your home” series on Netflix will do if you don’t have access to a large fire) and some hot cocoa.

The Big Picture'Halloween Ends' and the 'Halloween' Movie RankingsChris Ryan joins Sean to talk about the recently released “Halloween Ends” and ranks all 13 Halloween films. That’s right, this includes the most important works to the franchise (in my opinion) Halloween H2O and Halloween Resurrection.

Las Culturistas"I Love Locations" (w/ Ana Fabrega & Julio Torres)I think we can all agree that Julio Torres ALWAYS has a spooky energy which I love. Julio and Ana join Bowen and Matt to tell the horror story that is being abroad in March 2020 filming Los Espooky’s as the pandemic was unfolding. Julio also shares a fun anecdote about Alfred Hitchcock which leads to Matt pitching him to write the film “Hitchcock at Dinner”, a movie I would absolutely watch.

PODCAST SPOTLIGHT:

Maybe you've seen the stat - more than 50 million Americans care for someone over 50. Navigating what happens when you become a parent to your parent was the impetus of "Twenty-Four Seven," a podcast Emmy-winning producer Kitty Eisele started after she moved back home to care for her dad.

In Season 3, which just launched on Texas Public Radio, Eisele interviews prominent filmmakers, authors, novelists and comedians about how and why they decided to elevate the conversation around caregiving by centering their work on dementia caregivers. Listen to their authentic, brave and deeply personal stories. New episodes of Twenty-Four Seven launch every other week and are available on Texas Public Radio (tpr.org/247), Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify and most podcast platforms.
