Why did you choose this theme? The conversation about Britney Spears and her conservatorship is a conversation about power. You might think that one of the most famous people in the world, with hundreds of millions of record sales to her name, would hold an incredible amount of power. But Britney's case illustrates how stunningly easy it is to rob someone of their power and agency in plain sight — and if it can happen to someone like Britney, it's very clearly happening to people with less visibility and fame.

Toxic: The Britney Spears StoryChapter 3: Boys
When Britney Spears eloped in Las Vegas with her childhood friend, Jason, it was tabloid fodder for months. And it set the template for swift, decisive interference and for control of Britney by her family. This show was written and hosted by comedians Tess Barker and Barbara "Babs" Gray (who also created the podcast Britney's Gram, which helped start the Free Britney movement).
Battle Tactics For Your Sexist WorkplaceBritneyThis episode examines Britney's workplace, which was incredibly toxic and sexist from the get-go. Co-hosted by this week's EarBuds curator, Jeannie Yandel, it explores how all of us were complicit in creating that awful workplace. Jeannie's co-host, Eula Scott Bynoe, reflects on how her experiences at work mirror some of what Britney went through.
The New Yorker Radio HourRonan Farrow and Jia Tolentino Investigate Britney Spears’s Conservatorship
If you feel like coverage of Britney Spears is beneath you intellectually, you need to listen to this episode. In fact, everyone should listen to this. Reporters Ronan Farrow and Jia Tolentino give a riveting description of their investigative reporting into the creation and maintenance of Britney's conservatorship, and why it's stayed in place even while Britney herself made records, toured, and did a sellout Las Vegas residency.
The CutSo Now You Wanna Free Britney Too, Huh?This episode talks with Britney superfans — the result is a tender, personal look at how those fans kept pushing to learn more about Britney's conservatorship and spawned a movement. Can we now finally say those fans were right all along?
Britney's GramAnother Snake
This is the original podcast by comedian duo Tess Barker and Barbara "Babs" Gray, in which they used Britney Spears's Instagram account to try to figure out what was going on with her and her conservatorship. This podcast broke news and created the Free Britney hashtag.
