EarBuds Podcast Collective: *Minority Mental Health*
5 podcast episodes according to a theme, curated by a different person each weekJuly 16 - 20, 2018
PODCAST CURATOR'S NAME: Jess Talwar
WHY THIS THEME?: July is #MinorityMentalHealthMonth, and showcasing these programs is an awesome follow-up to the more generalized theme of Mental Health from last week's EarBuds email.
MONDAY: The Black Girl Healing Project - Using Dance/Movement Psychotherapy to Manage Stress - 28 minutes The layers to this episode are incredible. Dance of course is something thought of as intensely physical, so hearing Dr. Grayson unpack it as something intertwined with the emotional, mental, and spiritual was really profound. TUESDAY: LatinX Therapy - When You're the English Translator for your Family - 34 minutes This episode examines the psychological and emotional repercussions of children translating for adults. WEDNESDAY: Policy Talks - Mental Health and Wellness across Indigenous Communities in Canada - 44 minutes Trigger warning: suicide Mimi Chakrabarty takes a look at causes of mental illness and youth suicide in indigenous communities, and to what extent governments may be involved in addressing the epidemic. THURSDAY: Stories of Stigma: South Asian Mental Health - Get Cultured! w/Saranya Sundaram - 22 minutes South Asian hosts and guests discuss the stigma of mental illness within South Asian communities, and address the generational gap we’re seeing form in mental health consciousness. FRIDAY: Self Care Sundays - Artist, Activist, and Youth Mentor Maxwell Emcays - 33 minutes Full transparency - I produce this podcast, so this is a little self-promo. I loved Maxwell’s interview because it touched upon immigrant mental health and the mental health of children of immigrants, especially in the context of masculinity.
