Why this theme?
👉🏽As a teacher, I realize more and more every day that pleasure is the key to success in language learning. Four years ago, I surprised myself by being able to understand a German podcast, and the desire to get to know the hosts better pushed me to listen to it every day and, just like that, make unhoped-for progress.
This is my chance to share with you my five favorite episodes, in five different languages!
Podcast Picks
Easy GermanIn this episode, hosts Cari and Manuel shatter a myth: they're not friends. Their relationship runs even deeper: Cari is Manuel's stepmother, and is in a relationship with his father, Janusz. The two hosts talk about how Easy German grew from a Youtube channel into a family business, and how the podcast helped Cari and Manuel get to know each other better. |
French BaratinIn this episode, hosts Cécile, Rafael and Sibylle discuss a somewhat taboo subject: how do couples manage their money? The three hosts recount their experiences on the subject and debate whether there are fairer solutions than others. This podcast features authentic and entertaining discussions on a wide range of topics relating to French society. |
Il podcast di Italiano AvanzatoPietro Gambino asks what teachers learn from their students. In clear, authentic Italian, the host recounts his own experience: meeting students from all over the world has given him much more than new grammatical structures to teach! |
EspañolistosThe hosts of this podcast are Texan Nate and Colombian Andrea. In this lighthearted episode, they recount, at a leisurely pace, their first experiences in the working world as teenagers and young adults. Andrea corrects Nate's pronunciation errors. |
All Ears EnglishHosts Lindsay and Aubrey introduce foreigners learning English to new expressions. In this episode, they talk about expressions such as "go the way of the dinosaurs," which can be used to talk about outdated things. They explain how to use these expressions in a self-deprecating way, rather than to make fun of others. |

Spotlight
This is the inside story of one of the world’s most bizarre and ballsy reality dating shows. In early 2013 a group of twelve unsuspecting American women were flown to a sumptuous Elizabethan estate in the heart of the Berkshire countryside, where they competed for a chance to win the affections of one of the world’s most eligible bachelors. “Oh my god,” shouts one of the contestants as their suitor arrives by helicopter, “That’s Prince Harry!” The Bachelor Of Buckingham Palace tells the gripping, entertaining, and unsettling story of how Fox duped a group of women into believing they were dating a man who was fifth in the line to the British throne. |
