I love true crime, and I consume a lot of it. But I also need some light in the form of inspiration, aspiration, and humor to balance out all the murder.

Small Town Dicks

For EarBuds curator Yeardley Smith (and host of Small Town Dicks) it’s really hard to choose one favorite from the past 11 seasons. But this two-part episode is a great start. Detectives Dan and Dave, along with the victim’s widow and fellow officers, recount the day Chris Kilcullen was murdered while on a traffic stop. This one brings tears to Yeardley's eyes every time she hears it.

i SpyThe Spycatcher Parts 1 & 2This two-parter is like watching a thriller! A (former) spy named Eric O’Neill is charged with catching one of the FBI’s most notorious spies at the agency, named Robert Hanssen. Every 10 minutes you think Eric is going to get made by his target. It’s real-life storytelling at its best.
