Light and Dark: Podcast Recommendations
CuratorYeardley Smith (she/her), host of the Small Town Dicks podcast
Why did you choose this theme?
I love true crime, and I consume a lot of it. But I also need some light in the form of inspiration, aspiration, and humor to balance out all the murder.

Small Town Dicks
For EarBuds curator Yeardley Smith (and host of Small Town Dicks) itâs really hard to choose one favorite from the past 11 seasons. But this two-part episode is a great start. Detectives Dan and Dave, along with the victimâs widow and fellow officers, recount the day Chris Kilcullen was murdered while on a traffic stop. This one brings tears to Yeardley's eyes every time she hears it.
i SpyThe Spycatcher Parts 1 & 2This two-parter is like watching a thriller! A (former) spy named Eric OâNeill is charged with catching one of the FBIâs most notorious spies at the agency, named Robert Hanssen. Every 10 minutes you think Eric is going to get made by his target. Itâs real-life storytelling at its best.
Alec Mapa: Host Mess with Matthew Dempsey Psychotherapist
Alec and Matt: Alec not drinking
Alec, who is an actor/writer/comedian, holds nothing back in this searingly honest episode about why he recently decided to stop drinking. Matthew is also incredibly candid. His warmth is the perfect complement to Alecâs take-no-prisoners approach to life.
Brené Brown: Unlocking UsBrené with David Eagleman on The Inside Story of the Ever-Changing BrainAny time someone mixes science with spirituality, EarBuds curator Yeardley is up for it!
Comedy Gold Minds with Kevin HartNiecy NashListening to this interview feels like being a fly-on-the-wall to a wonderful conversation between two friends for whom no subject is off-limits. Niecy is a force of nature and Kevin is 100% there for it.
