Curator:

Why did you choose this theme?

I love podcasts that fill me with exciting ideas I never fully considered and allow me to look at those ideas from a few different angles. This means that at parties, I am ready to discuss a lot of ideas largely based on what I hear on podcasts.

Podcast Picks:

Friends Like UsCancel Comedian Culture

This podcast is all about featuring women of color and interesting topics of conversation. Host and writer Marina Franklin discusses the fine line between creating comedic material and being offensive with comedians Judy Gold, Nika King, and Alvin Irby.

Beautifully ComplicatedSustainability Is Complicated

Host Sheena Hunt uses the broad topic of sustainability as a way to explore self-care, building an authentic relationship with yourself, and the joy of living your life through the lens of Black Excellence. There’s a lot of focus on Issa Rae in this episode, so we're fans of this one.

But Why Tho?Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Matter

Stock up on fun facts for when the conversation turns to games, movies, or in the case of this episode, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Host Adrian takes listeners from the early beginnings of the hit adult comic to the principles of toy marketing, and the cultural following this show had.

Keep ItAbout A Boycott

Hosts Ira Madison III, Louis Virtel, and Aida Osman and their guests discuss the ways in which pop culture and entertainment intersect with politics and society. This episode features a discussion of the new Oscars inclusion standards, Paris Hilton’s less than insightful new documentary, the boycotts against Mulan and Cuties, and Paul Rudd’s awkward PSA on wearing masks.

PODCAST SPOTLIGHT:

Secrets & Spies takes a look at geopolitics and espionage in the 21st century. Each episode brings an interview with authors, scholars, and professionals from the world of espionage. I love how the show dives into things he wouldn't ordinarily find interesting. The guests are so embedded in what they do and their knowledge is so niche and specific that it's hard not to find it fascinating!- Mark Asquith from the EarBuds Advisory Board
