Why did you choose this theme? 

Consciously or not, a good cry is often what I'm looking for in a podcast. I'm searching for some sort of catharsis. I love a good story that makes me both laugh and cry.

"Good Grief" delivers on its promise. It makes me appreciate the living, have more compassion for the grieving, and helps me deal with loss. The lovely sound design carries listeners through non-narrated remembrances from people honoring those they love and dealing with the complexities of their losses.

The Turning: The Sisters Who LeftNo Turning Back

I just listened to this series about Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity. There's mystery, intrigue in this seemingly well-known icon, as well as a captivating love story. You can hear the pain in the women's voices. Their experiences clearly still affect them today.

No Feeling is FinalHi, My Name is HONOR

I love how Honor Eastly suggests listeners do something nice for themselves after listening, because the show has a tendency to bring up feelings. This six-episode podcast full of audio diaries, dark humor, existential epiphanies, heartbreaking truths, and hope made me laugh and cry -- sometimes both at the same time.

One of the greatest things about podcasts is access to people we don't typically hear. Before people were outfitting their closets with microphones and laptops, there were silver airstreams that traveled the country encouraging people to record their family stories.
