Arielle & Maya -- The EarBuds Team

Why This Theme?:

EarBuds is going through lots of changes. In the last few months, we hired our first Newsletter & Podcast Coordinator -- s/o to Maya Rubin -- we revamped our podcast, (second season is out TODAY), aaaand, we rebranded. You can probably tell from the look of this email. Shoutout to our designer, Kayla Shafkowitz! This week's theme is dedicated to change. The episodes we chose each focus on changes that we all go through, whether they're psychological, physical, geographical, or anything else.

Get In Touch:

Future Hindsight is a weekly podcast that aims to spark civic engagement through in-depth conversations with citizen changemakers. American democracy is a living, breathing mechanism whose well-being deserves to be cultivated and protected, and now more than ever, the need to be an engaged citizen is critical. We explore how each of us has the power to shape our society and fulfill our shared civic responsibility.

The Talk

M's friend says things that really bother M. Racist and homophobic things. He wants to know how to talk to his good friend about the offensive stuff he says, but doesn't really know how. We find some lessons in the story of Steven Hassan, a former Moonies cult member, and how he developed a way to get people out of cults. We share Steven's lessons with M to see if he can get through to his friend.

Separated at Home But Still Together at Work

Husband and wife are co-owners of a winery and restaurant. he loves the colleague that she is at work, but he likes less the wife she is at home. As their marriage ends, they wonder if the future of their business depends on the future of their marriage.

Laura Cathcart Robbins and Scott Slaughter chat with interviewees about their "only one" stories -- the times that they felt like they were the only ones in the room with a certain, personal story -- times that they felt alone. In this episode, we hear from Patti Linsky, who was the only cantor in rehab.

When Quaker decided to take Aunt Jemima off the red pancake box after 131 years, did it also try to scrub the legacy she represents? And what sort of compensation is appropriate -- and to whom -- from a band that maintained that image in public for so long?

This is one of the rarest stories of all: a man who publicly experiences a profound change of heart. This is a profile of one of the gods of psychotherapy, who through a reckoning with his own work (oddly enough in the pages of Playboy magazine), becomes the first domino to fall in science's ultimate disowning of the "gay cure."
