Why did you choose this theme?

There are plenty of podcasts that cover the news around gaming (whether we’re talking video games, tabletop roleplaying games, or sports). But the best ones dive into what it is like to be a fan of these games, and dig into the feelings behind them. All of these shows focus on the humanity behind games, whether it is fan rebellion against D&D, workers’ rights at game studios, or the conspiracies swirling in NBA fandom.

The MinnMax Show

40 Big Predictions For 2023There have been a ton of layoffs in the games media space, making it a precarious place to be. But we need people diving in and analyzing video games, for the good of the medium! Basketball Illuminati A History of ViolenceThis isn’t the regular citizen’s basketball show; this is a show for NBA conspiracy theorists. But seriously — looking at the weird drama of the NBA through the lens of corkboards and keeping your third-eye open is the best way to consume and think about the business and celebrity underpinning professional basketball.

GameplayFirewatchThis is the 99% Invisible of video games, and Roman Mars, host of 99% Invisible, approved of the name. If that’s not a recommendation for you podheads, I don’t know what is. These episodes are the most detailed analysis of the smallest details inside video games and in this episode, the hosts build a narrative adventure on the fly.
