Game Show Podcast Recommendations🎲

CuratorJessica Alpert (she/her), executive producer of Queen of Hearts

Why did you choose this theme?

It's post-holiday mood swing time. Maybe you're ready to take on 2023 (all cute with that list of resolutions) or maybe you just want to hide under your comforter. No matter what, I think there's nothing like a game show podcast to get your morning going. Doing game shows in audio form is a super fun challenge and we're celebrating the awesome people who are thinking, doing, analyzing, and creating.

SpectacleThe BachelorEarBuds curator Jessica Alpert loves this podcast's exploration of The Bachelor and its problematic, intoxicating, and ridiculous allure. When she was developing her podcast, Queen of Hearts, she studied the casting strategies of The Bachelor and used it as a syllabus for creating hilarious pairings that hook you in immediately. Whether you like or hate The Bachelor, you can't deny that the casting always hits a chord..

This American LifeIt's a Game Show!Clearly Normal Gossip is one of the stand-out shows of 2022 and this This American Life conversation let us understand some of the magic. As always, it starts with making guests feel comfortable. And what's better than a game of telephone?

Family Road Trip Trivia Podcast

Wait Wait… Don't Tell Me!Robin ThedeStill the OG news quiz show. When you develop a game show there is such a delicate balance between developing a fun vibe and an actual sense of game play. You have to respect how Wait, Wait has found its flow and continues to introduce new voices whenever possible. Wait, Wait reached out to hilarious viral instagram comic Vinny Thomas via Twitter and he joined as a guest writer for a few shows. It's awesome when a legacy show never stop reinventing itself.

Queen of HeartsAmateur Orgasm Scholar Seeks Naughty Study BuddyJujubee (Drag Race, Dragnificent) is the amazing host of the Rococo Punch/Wondery amazing blind dating game show podcast. Truly it's the show "Where Love Is Just A Game." It works like this. One dater is offered three people to get to know. They only hear a 15-20 second clip of each person and immediately have to eliminate one. The remaining two are brought into the game live and a series of raunchy, fun, and revealing games are played. No one can see anyone else until the end. It's inclusive, mind blowing, and fun to play along. Root for (or hate listen) to these amazing contestants. Jujubee is absolute gold and keeps the vibe funny but kind. Definitely an 18+ listen.

⛰️Three years ago, The Wind published its first episode from a small handmade desk in the mountains. Since then, creator Fil Corbitt has continued to craft weird, fascinating, sometimes beautiful, sometimes unapologetically ugly stories that dig deep into the practice of listening. The Wind returns this month (on the full moon) with a slate of episodes about performers, listening closely to the way rodeo clowns, powwow singers, and Lucha Libre announcers create space through sound.🏀Not your dad's sports news (It's better, tbh). PODCAST SPOTLIGHT:

In this podcast, host Mangesh Hattikudur dives into the incredible ways astrology presents itself in modern society: from NASA employees who keep their belief in astrology in the closet, to world leaders who’ve used astrologers to guide foreign policy, to moneyball statisticians who use astrology more than statistics to build baseball teams.

Over the course of 8 episodes, Mangesh tries to decipher why we keep looking to the stars for answers, and what happens when you don’t believe in astrology, but astrology keeps happening to you.
