Five episodes on a theme, each week curated by a different person

This week's EarBuds is brought to us by...🍲🥘🦐What You're Eating. A podcast that's here to help you understand how our food gets to our plates, and see the full impact of the food we eat on animals, planet, and people.

Curator:

Dan Delgado

Why did you choose this theme?

I have an interest in this topic not just as a movie fan, but also as a podcaster. I've been producing and hosting a podcast about film history called The Industry in the for the last three years. These are five of the best podcasts about film history that I've come across (so far).

You Must Remember This“It wasn’t sexism, then”The gold standard podcast in this category, You Must Remember This, has been creating stellar episodes about Hollywood's first century for years now. Host Karina Longworth does amazingly detailed deep dives into her season long subjects. Start with episode one in the season on Polly Platt, the "forgotten woman."

The Plot ThickensLighting the Fire

This podcast from the movie history experts over at TCM is exactly what you'd expect: a well-produced series that gives great insight into its topics. Check out the first episode of season two, The Devil's Candy, that dives into the production of the epic misfire of the 1990 film The Bonfire of the Vanities.

The Secret History of HollywoodCary: Part 1

When it comes to film history podcasts, the David Lean of the category is definitely this series by Adam Roche. In case you don't catch that reference, this means that the episodes are long, wonderfully produced, epic in scope, and utterly brilliant. Check out Cary: Part 1, a biography about Cary Grant that clocks in at over 12 hours long.

Gene and Roger"I Must Destroy Him"This narrative series from The Ringer is a wonderful look at the beloved, bickering movie critics "Siskel & Ebert," whose real names were Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. For plenty of people like myself, watching Siskel & Ebert was a key and formative part of being a major movie fan and I found myself wanting more. Start with episode one, and if you're a Gen Xer, try not to drown in the nostalgia of it all.

The OriginalsJoe Eszterhas: Mel Gibson's a Nazi and Brando Loved Cats Too Much

This interview series from Los Angeles Magazine is everything you want from an interview show: interesting guests who actually give out stories you will not be getting anywhere else. Check out episode five, where host Andrew Goldman gets absolutely insane stories out of screenwriter Joe Eszterhas.

FEEDBACK WITH EARBUDS:

This week on Feedback...We chat with this week's EarBuds curator, Dan Delgado, about his podcast picks. We also learn some crazy film history facts!PLUS: Hear from the host of this week's Spotlight pick, Kimberly Seals Allers at Birthright.

COMMUNITY:

📰Lauren Passell's 'Podcast The Newsletter': Outside/In’s episode on the “post trail blues” was funny and beautifully made. When she listened to this episode, Lauren could actually feel her brain curving around to understand something she hadn’t understood before: how unmoored people must feel when they return from a long (sometimes looooog) time in the outdoors. 🎧We Stay Looking: This satirical comedy and spinoff of the hit podcast Looking for LaToya tackles important topics in the Black community including prison reform, Black maternal health, and more. This scripted parody true crime podcast is brought to you by Issa Rae’s label Raedio and HBO and is based on HBO's  acclaimed series, Insecure.🌼Editaudio shares: One of their original podcasts, Date With Daddy, is nominated for an Ambie Award! Season 2 just launched, so they're excited to be able to be amongst some big players as an indie woman and queer-owned podcast production house.
