These are all historical moments that are still relevant and impacting its various spaces today, from civil rights leaders, athletes, HIV/ AIDs to schooling and education.

Who Killed Malcolm X

Directors Rachel Dretzin and Phil Bertelsen join Touré to talk about

Who Killed Malcolm X

, a Netflix documentary that tells us who pulled the trigger of the sawed-off shotgun that killed Malcolm X, which Newark mosque he was from, how he got away, how the NYPD knew Malcolm’s life was in danger and allowed him to operate, and how the FBI sowed the seeds of angry division in the Nation of Islam that led to Malcolm’s murder.

This was a crime that continues to impact generations and this discussion offers a new perspective to what really happened to Malcolm X.

Touré ShowKareem Abdul-Jabbar — How to Ball in LifeKareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the greatest athletes of all time, but he calls himself a writer who played basketball. Black HIV in the South: How Did We Get Here?

The History of Black HIV in the SouthHost Anna DeShawn explores the history, economics, and culture of HIV/AIDS in the Black community. Through interviews and personal stories, Anna and her co-host Duane Cramer explore the shame, stigma, and solutions for something that is still happening today. This show impacted me heavily, as historically, HIV/AIDS is not commonly discussed in the Black community even though it's an epidemic in the Black community. This is a great listen to learn the history of HIV/AIDS is what the best way to help the future of African Americans is.

Unreformed: The Story of the Alabama Industrial School for Negro ChildrenIn 1968, police arrested five Black girls dressed in oversized military fatigues in Montgomery. The girls were runaways, escaping from a state-run reform school called the Alabama Industrial School for Negro Children in Mount Meigs, Alabama. The girls were determined to tell someone about the abuse they’d suffered there: physical and sexual violence, unlivable facilities, and grueling labor in the fields surrounding the school. This podcast brings to light how the strength of young Black girls is empowering and how we have to continue to stand up for what's right.

Werk StoriesWerk Stories is a place for women of color to share their experiences in the work place. We’re talking bias, equal pay, bad bosses, racist hiring practices, crazy things your coworkers have done and said to you… this is the safe place where you can tell these stories. The host, Joi, is indeed that an absolute joy, but these are important stories about work place equality, breaking that glass ceiling, and overcoming racial inequities at work.
