5 Easy Listening Science Podcast Recommendations
These podcast episodes — along with their descriptions — were thoughtfully curated by Keelin.
1) Tiny Matters

This podcast talks about all small things, even if they impact big things. A great podcast that really can inspire, inform, and delight in shorter episodes. One of my favorite things is tiny show-and-tell, where the hosts find unrelated tiny topics to end the episode with.
2) Outside/In

From NHPR, this podcast is ecology-based and touches on the overlap between the world we live in and who we are.
Topics range from the color blue and roadkill, to the climate crisis and taxonomy, and can sometimes spin off into really amazing pieces of journalism.
Start here: Like a Dirty Rotten Whale
3) Normal Curves

A "spicy statistics" podcast that takes studies that seem silly, and then breaks them down. Topics include a few things serious, some things taboo, and some downright silly.
The hosts tell us about how the studies are “good” (or not), with easy-to-understand reasoning wrapped in great banter.
4) Future Ecologies

One of the prettiest science shows in terms of episode structure and sound design, this is one that is best to sit back and relax to.
It will gut punch you sometimes, but the way it lifts the listener back to a place of hope and wonder is truly an achievement.
Start here: For Peat’s Sake
5) Pale Blue Pod

Space is one of the most intense and overwhelming parts of our existence.
Episodes of this podcast are full of the joy of wonder and learning. There is an astounding range of topics as well, with astronomy history, how space works, and how things in space get their names.
Start here: A is for Astronomy

I love learning, but sometimes science topics can be overwhelming — or were once overwhelming because I couldn't understand them when I was younger. These podcasts help bring intimidating topics to easy understanding, with some fun along the way!

What if working out was about more than the workout?
Each week, writer and fitness enthusiast Sebastian Langdell talks to an author, musician, comedian, filmmaker, or other creative about their exercise routine, athletic passions, approach to nutrition – and, most importantly, how their fitness practice fuels their artistic practice.
You’ll hear about how boxing and bouldering boost mental health, long bike rides offer a shortcut to transcendence, and getting physically stronger leads to more ambitious art.
By the end of the episode, you’ll be inspired to both hit the gym and write your novel.

📣 In Podcast The Newsletter, Lauren Passell writes about The Obit Project.
Obituaries have the potential to be fantastic but, as Jad Abumrad points out in the new podcast he’s co-hosting with his former colleague Jule Banville The Obit Project, they’re often pretty boring—predictably glowing, numb, barely informative, and weren’t really written for people outside the dead person’s circle.
But what if an outsider who just wanted to tell a good story tried to write someone’s obituary in an interesting way, with the goal only to make it good tried to do it through sound?

Podcast news from Podnews
How can you get your podcast promoted by Spotify? Today, Podnews speaks with Lizzy Hale, Spotify’s Head of Podcast Editorial.
233 million people live in Nigeria - so podcasting could be massive in the country. As Tony Onwuchekwa writes for Podnews today for another of our market focus articles, 88% of Nigerian podcasts are in English; but almost a third have either podfaded or are on pause.
It’s easier to get new shows into Apple Podcasts; but that also means it’s easier to push spam into it - Apple Podcasts (and, therefore, many other apps that rely on the Apple Podcasts directory) is being flooded by spam.
