5 Podcasts on Grief and Loss

These podcast episodes — along with their descriptions — were thoughtfully curated by Roger Nairn.

1) Dead Dads

A darkly funny, honest podcast about losing your dad and everything that follows. It talks about the moments after the celebration of life, the stories no one knows where to put (like how Roger's dead dad was dropped at the funeral home), and the strange overlap between grief and humor.

In this episode, Roger and Scott explain why the show exists, what losing their dads actually looked like, and why humor keeps sneaking into moments that shouldn’t be funny but somehow are.

2) All There Is With Anderson Cooper

Musician Nick Cave, who has lost two sons, talks with Anderson about how grief reshaped the way he moves through the world.

Not as something that closed him off, but as something that slowly deepened his attention, his empathy, and his ability to love.

3) Terrible, Thanks For Asking

It’s easy to forget our connection when we’re encouraged to see each other as adversaries.

This episode is a reminder that grief doesn’t pick sides, and neither do the stories that bring us back together.

4) Griefcast

Cariad sits down with writer and comedian Viv Groskop to talk about her grandparents, Vera and Ivor.

They cover grief, how ballroom dancing became a form of healing, and why Eurovision somehow belongs in the same conversation.

5) Everything Happens with Kate Bowler

In this episode, listeners interview Kate about how to get through terrible days, what not to say to someone with cancer, and how to show up for people who are struggling, alongside reflections on finding small pockets of usefulness in a hard year, and what she’s carrying forward into the next one.

I chose this theme because grief touches everyone, yet we’re strangely unprepared for it when it arrives. We’re taught how to "perform" grief, not how to sit with loss, and most conversations about grief only start once someone is already hurting.

These stories create space for honesty, connection, and recognition, reminding us that grief isn’t something to fix or rush through, but something we carry together.

One Truth. Many Paths. Endless Curiosity.

Hosted by real-life couple and cosmic co-adventurers Will and Karen, The Skeptic Metaphysicians is where open minds meet open hearts — and where deep metaphysical mysteries get unwrapped with humor, humanity, and a healthy dose of “wait…what?!”

Born from an existential breakdown (yep, the spiritual kind), the show dives headfirst into the wild world of spiritual awakenings, energy healing, consciousness expansion, near-death experiences, psychic phenomena, manifestation, mysticism… and beyond.

I did a double take when I saw that Lea Thau’s STRANGERS had popped into my feed. The feed has been basically dormant since 2016, and if you haven’t listened to it yet you should, it is overflowing with goodies.

⚡️ Everybody Knows But Me unpacks family secrets and the messy, emotional truth of who the people you love really are. When she was just 17, Holly Brown’s dad was dying of cancer. It looked like life couldn’t get more traumatic, until her dad dropped a bombshell….or two bombshells, really: twin brothers that her entire family kept secret.
